In the past seasons we have spotted Kerry Washington in a bold knee length, nature and post stamp print Mary Katrantzou number. At first I was a bit skeptical about this dress, I just found somewhat too busy for my liking. The floral print with the birds and the post stamps plus the intricate details in the fabrics all seemed a bit too overwhelming for me. Only after I had given it time and got to see it on a number of fashion columns and on the television did it grow on me and I later got to learn Mary Katrantzou’s aesthetic. Well fast forward to a year later I’m in love with this over the top (OTT) print.
In all honesty this is not a trend I can testify to have spotted a lot on the runways but the few times I’ve seen it both on runways and on the red carpets I have been falling deeply in love with it. The Greek-Born designer has been making a mark of her own since her debut collection in 2008 at London Fashion Week. Personally
I feel how she incorporates abstract objects and ideas to form prints which are unique to her is just totes amazing. She evokes a feeling I like to call ‘Japanese Romance’ simply because I feel like she just flirts with the Japanese culture of bold prints and intricate detailing but also has a sense of making it so ravishing and chic. Her items just take you through a journey. If you are going to dare try these loud prints on I believe you should bear in mind to keep the rest of your outfit simple and quiet after all you’re not trying to give people a visual headache. This is my journey with Katrantzou and her heavily detailed collection, hope you love it too.
What do you think of the print trend for summer? Yay or Nay?
