Whiskey and beer?! Say what?! Two things you normally wouldn’t imagine putting together, but Jameson just went ahead and did it anyway. This is a new exciting collaboration with fellow Irish brewery known as Franciscan Well, and SABloggers was there when they launched in SA at The Good Luck Bar at 1Fox Sheds.
Before I let you in on the goings on of the event, I need to expose my ignorance and tell you that there is NO beer in the whiskey. The trick with this new gem is that Jameson aged their timeless whiskey in beer barrels which are traditionally used to make stout beer. So the whiskey ends up with a cocoa, coffee and butterscotch finish. Amaze right?
Ok so rewinding… a personal QR code got you in. A badge with a moustache made sure you stayed in. A love for whiskey with a new taste made sure you had a good time. That plus all the perfect ingredients for a great event were mixed together that night.
Venue: Dope. Drinks: All the Jameson Caskmates you can stomach. Entertainment: Funnyman Lazola Gola held it together as the MC and HHP and Nonku Phiri did the most jamming their music styles together in the spirit of the evening – collaboration. Activities: 2 old-style barber chairs for any gentleperson who needed a touch up or close shave. Reminiscent of Sweeney Todd without all the meat pies. Food: Yummy creative mobile eats, from savoury starters to chocolatey desserts. Bonus: Roaming photographers with Polaroid cameras who captured guests in motion and handed them back their memories in a flash. This was no regular launch, it was an experience without ever a dull moment. Of course the alcohol made the beautiful people that much more fun.
Sometime during the evening we had the pleasure of Jameson Master of Whiskey Science, Dave Quinn and Shane Long, Franciscan Well Founder, get on stage and tell us the conception story of this innovation. The party picked up soon afterwards and I had to remind myself it was a Thursday and had to be somewhat responsible… so I stayed for an extra hour!
Great night. Great people. Great whiskey. Be sure to keep an eye out for Jameson Caskmates in selected stores or at any decent bar that likes to experiment. For visuals of the night check out the video recap on Jameson’s Indie Channel.
