Threads -Stitched by Standard Bank kicks into high gear with the upcoming Bootcamps, where 80  up-and-coming fashion entrepreneurs across Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Joburg and Durban will be put through a rigorous evaluation process as their business savvy is tested in a day long programme of activities.

Launched last month, the Threads programme, received over 400 entries from fashion entrepreneurs across South Africa.  The 12 week accelerator programme is geared at upskilling burgeoning fashion entrepreneurs who’re looking to strengthen the business side of their enterprises, and turn them into profitable and sustainable ventures.

Co-founder of the Threads programme, Tania Habimana enthuses “We are so inspired with the caliber of entries we got from candidates all over the country!  There’s no doubt that these entrepreneurs are incredibly creative, and have impressive products and services to offer.  The process of selecting 20 semi-finalists per city was extremely difficult  – there were so many deserving candidates! In the Bootcamps, we have constructed a rigorous and industry-appropriate set of exercises through which we can assess each candidate’s business acumen. We’re excited to work with our incredible panel of judges and fashion industry thought leaders in selecting the ultimate 12 participants!”

The Bootcamps will take place over a day-long period in each city, and consist of various exercises and team challenges that will test each candidates negotiation and sales skills, as well as marketing and financial literacy. During the bootcamps the candidates will be judged by a review committee who will make the ultimate decision of which 3 candidates per city will go on to be participants on the Threads Stitched by Standard Bank Accelerator Program. The review committee comprises of a carefully selected team of experts in business and fashion, including the Threads co-founders, local Standard Bank executives as well as representation from the local investment authority, local fashion council and local business heroes.
