Heineken®, the world’s leading international premium beer is continuing their call for the brave and encourage people to get out of their comfort zone. I was invited to one of their four exclusive #OpenYourCity events in Durban and I had the time of my life with fellow Durbanites together with the Heineken team and South Africa’s favourite celebs; DJ Naves & Sphectacular, Kyle, Sketchy and Aewon.
Heineken is all for responsible drinking so we were given Uber codes to use to and from the event, I think that most brands, especially alcohol should invest in this incredible idea because we know that a number of accidents take place during this time of the year due to drinking and driving. Imagine being driven around in a Luxury SUV with Sphe & Naves next to you, chatting and taking selfies, walking in at Cubana and everyone turning their heads to look at you because there’s a camera crew snapping away – I felt like a celeb for a few hours.
During dinner at Moyo’s I sat with Heineken’s Marketing Manager Themba Ratsibe to chat about the #OpenYourCity campaign, you can read our interview below.
What is the Heineken® “Open Your City” campaign all about? Heineken® is the world’s leading international beer brand and has established itself as the brand which will Open Your City, whether it be in consumer activations and stunts or large scale sponsorships. With this campaign, the brand seeks to challenge Heineken® fans to step outside of their normal routine, explore new city spaces and in so doing, experience Heineken® and its ambition to Open their World in the place they love – so they Open (their) Your City.
How can people be involved? People can get involved by purchasing any Heineken, use the unique code on the underliner/pull tab and dial *120*300#, and enter your underliner code. You can also win other awesome prizes, like a VIP ticket for two to Miami, instant airtime, Uber and Entertainer app vouchers.
Why did the campaign only roll out in only 3 cities? The #OpenYourCity is a big global campaign that is rolled out globally at the same time, we wanted to roll it out in the biggest cities here in South Africa which is JHB, CPT, and JHB. The three cities night life each have its own experiences and something that makes it unique and you can’t find it anywhere else. The mentioned Cities can hold its own against the best in the world such as Miami, Ibiza etc.
The campaign so far has been well received in other cities here in South Africa and we are seeing more people taking up the challenge and opening their own cities. Fans who are not in DBN, JHB or CPT can still take part by purchasing any Heineken, use the unique code on the underliner/pull tab and they could stand a chance to win a once in a lifetime trip to Miami or other prizes including Uber vouchers or the chance to open their city with an Entertainer app subscription.
What is next for Heineken®? We always have a lot happening at the Heineken ® headquarters. We always want to stay ahead in terms of innovation and giving our fans the best premium experience. We are still the official supporter of UEFA and fans can look forward to a few surprises coming their way.
Can you comment on the Durban party scene, Durban is our very own Miami. The Durban nightlife is always very unique. The ambiance that you get here is unmatched and the party never stops. The music is upbeat, we can’t deny GQOM is taking over the country by storm and the best place to experience it has to be in Durban and just seeing the way people react to the music playing is priceless.
Which Club has been your best thus far? This one of the questions I always try to avoid, because its very hard to answer. Because all the clubs that we have partnered with during the campaign offered our guests a different experience and a vibe that you can’t get anywhere else. The clubs lived up to our purpose of creating a unique experience week. But all I can say Durban offers a variety of night life options, you will always be entertained.
Heineken ® hosted an exclusive invite-only event as part of their #OpenYourCity campaign. The event was held on Saturday, 18 November at the picturesque Views at 25 located in Morningside.
Guests in attendance were treated to a lovely afternoon that led to night consisting of good music, scrumptious food, good company and of course a cold premium beer in hand.
