“It took me 4 years to come up with the theme and I have decided to keep it for the longest time. This theme speaks freedom upon African garments, It says that it’s ok to wear African clothes with pride,”
Born at Emandeni in a small community called kwa-Dendethu, a 23-year-old Pearl Ntuli is a former student at University of Zululand where she did her Dual Major in Bachelor of Arts which was a step towards her journey of success.
“I have loved Arts for as long as I can remember. When I got to school I was involved in Arts programs like stage plays, music, and dance. I was always in a lime light,” said a laughing Pearl.
Her fate changed when she got to grade 10, Pearl said her school did not have drama studies but she promised herself that when she completed matric she will pursue drama. Pearl was 17 years and in grade 12 when she hosted her first fashion show.
“It was so much success, that I started hosting it every year. I remember in 2015 I hosted one at UniZulu, known as University of Zululand, In 2016 I did one in Mandeni and this year I will be hosting a huge one in Durban on the 21st of April,” explained Pearl.
Pearl said she started Annual fashion shows where she worked with young ladies, because she realized that there is less self-empowered, and more depending on next people.
“I saw a problem and introduced an effective solution,” said a proud Pearl.
Pearls theme and campaign promotes women empowerment and excellence. Pearls says her annual shows plants a seed of confidence and drive for success to 15 girls every year and she has been reaping the fruits of the seeds since 2012.
“My plan is definitely wanting to see this project grow to larger platforms, increased number of models and getting young designers and fashion houses to partner with us. Towards the end of this year I will premier my first look book magazine, where i will discuss issues daily faced by young girls and also providing solutions to overcome these challenges,” said Pearl.
Pearl who works with Young ladies of between ages of 18 to 25, says these are the most vulnerable and targeted age group in communities, as they easily fall into wrong traps in the society to fit in.
“I have been working alone without a partner and with my own savings since I started this project, I’ve been rejected so many times people did not take my vision seriously until they realized it was a great initiative,” said Pearl on challenges she has had.
Pearl though has been working with fashion designers like Sipho Ostra, M.Shade, Leezo Creations, Twister, Victor fashion kingdom, who have helped her to achieve great results. Also not forgetting James, sakhile, and Catwoman pictures who are her photographers. Pearl also mentioned Sibahle Madlala, Londi Thomo, Mpume Mdanda, Prince M, and her sister Bonisiwe whom she has achieved a lot with them by her side.
This God fearing, very friendly and handworker young lady says to her success means waking up in the morning to put action into her dreams.
“Success is about creating your own doors if other doors are closed. The bible says speak life upon your situations and it shall be according to your wishes,” said Pearl in closure.
