What inspired the name of your blog? I bought the domain years ago and never utilized it until I wanted to start blogging again. I looked at my domain list and thought Goddess.co.za would actually be a great domain, as I wanted to create a blog focused on women. Plus, we all know that all women are goddesses!

How long have you been blogging for? I’ve only been blogging seriously for about 2 years now, but I’ve written poetry my whole life. I love writing, but never made the time to write something that didn’t have a monetary reward attached to it and then I got diagnosed and felt like I needed an outlet. I first wrote about once a month and then as I found myself in my writing, I started writing more and about other things that I’m passionate about.

What difficulties did you come across when you first started blogging? Finding the time to actually write in between work, sitting in Sandton traffic and sleep, wondering if anybody would actually want to read about surrogacy and infertility. Finding my voice through the tears and not just sounding bitter in every piece I wrote.

What do you think new bloggers need to know about blogging that most people don’t? It’s not about the freebies. Blogging is about telling authentic stories that make a difference. Your stories may be about personal struggles, beautiful places or experiences, but they should reflect your own view. If you write about what you are passionate about the rest will follow – just be patient.

What would you say has been a highlight of your blogging career thus far? I know it sounds silly, but the first time I got invited to go to the Prima Toys Christmas toy reveal event. It was heaven on earth! I love toys and it was like letting me lose in a candy shop with no spending limit and big empty bags. I played with every single toy they sent around. Then the opportunity to be interviewed by magazines about surrogacy and infertility. It is one of those subjects that I’m really passionate about because before it happened to me, I didn’t know anyone who has gone through it or that you could be the only person in your family who can’t conceive.

Who are your favourite bloggers? I read a lot of blogs in the mornings while I wait for the nanny because it is the only time of day I’m unable to get my fingers on a keyboard. I like reading blogs that have a variety of subjects or really have a story that I can relate to. Just some of the blogs I read:
– Peanutgallery247.com
– Tonicandtiaras.co.za
– Mommalikeme.co.za
– Momagainat40.blogspot.co.za
– Inthesestilettos.com
– Kandidly Kerry
– SAmomblogs
– Blessed Barrenness
– Rattle and Mom
– Caffeine & Fairydust
– And many more

Which is the most read blog post on your blog and why do you think people like it? An interview I did with Liz the Fragrance Queen. Every month it is one of the most read posts. I think people just like to know more about fragrances and Liz is a fountain of knowledge.

What else do you do besides blogging? I’m a freelance writer, social media manager and marketing consultant who just so happens to love to travel and can now go somewhere on a whim.

Where do you see your blog in the next two years? I’m going to focus a lot on family travel and living a healthier life, plus on how to stay youthful. I want to inspire women to grab every opportunity and to just squeeze every drop of joy from this life.

Do you look at your blog as a business, hobby or as a portfolio? My blog is a business, but it is also my hobby. My life doesn’t revolve around it, but my blog is part of our lives. For me it is something that is important enough to maintain and improve as I learn and grow.
